Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend
April 5, 2009 by Janet7
The diamond is a sparking gemstone of brilliance and fire that has inspired and fascinated mankind throughout the ages. As seen in history, it has been a testament to the strength of kings, the Ever since the unforgettable 1947 “A diamond is forever” slogan coined by advertising agency N.W. Ayer for De Beers, a diamond trading company, men have proposed to their wives going down on one knee and presenting that solitaire diamond engagement ring.
What is it about the diamond that appeal to women? Men look to diamonds more for its value as either a commercial gemstone or for use in industrial applications. But for women, it seems that a diamond stands for love and romance. But what is it about diamonds that turn a woman on?
These precious gemstones are actually just made of ordinary carbon, simpler even than other gems and minerals. But as simple as carbon sounds, natural diamonds are probably the oldest thing you’ll ever own, as it is created in a painstaking formation that takes thousands, if not millions of years.
Women might also love diamonds because they’re expensive. Although diamonds are not really known for their retail value, as they have no fixed world market price per gram, it is ironic that women crave it so much because of it is expensive.
Women like feeling that they are pampered and spoiled, whether they buy their own diamond jewelry, or a boyfriend or husband gifts one to them. So whatever else the reason is, diamonds are certainly known to be a girl’s best friend.

What? Where did you hear this, Marcus the B.?
Here is what they have to say about the Rav4 prize in the Rules and Regulations:
4. PRIZES
A) Thirty (30) 2006 Toyota RAV4 V6 Sport vehicles finished in a Classic Silver Metallic colour are available to be won. Included features: Best in class 269 hp V6, On-Demand Electronic 4WD, ABS and Brake Assistance. Winners are responsible for having or obtaining a valid drivers license and must obtain vehicle insurance. In Canada, G.S.T., H.S.T., sales tax, shipping, and preparation costs are included. Approximate retail value in Canada before any applicable taxes is $32,990 CDN each. In U.S.A., sales tax, shipping, and preparation costs are included. Licensing and registration are not included. Other than the foregoing, winner must pay all other costs incurred in claiming, registering or using vehicle. The approximate retail value before any applicable taxes in the U.S.A. is $25,190 U.S. each.
That doesn't say anything about a “lease”. That paragraph seems to make it quite clear (i.e. listing the retail value) that it is a “for keeps” prize. I skimmed through the rest of the R&R and there don't appear to be any hidden caveats.
If you're right, Marcus the B., then there's some false advertising going on here.
Every little bit helps. I deal with RV buyers from all over the RV world on a daily basis. The confusion and resulting frustrations they share are not going away or lessening as I hoped would happen with the growth of the Internet over the ten years since I left the active RV selling arena. In fact, it may be getting worse. I watched in bewildered amazement last year when Winnebago took their archive information off their website! I figure that act extinguished a couple of thousand established links to their website not to mention leaving more than a couple of years worth of current, loyal owners at a loss for information when time comes to sell their coachs and upgrade. Very short sighted on their part. Then there are companies like Jayco who I commend for allowing shoppers and customers to price out their dream RV online with the full list of options available. Why? I suspect they are protecting themselves from tricky dealers playing with pricing. Winnebago, Fleetwood and the Monaco divisions all send a detailed window sticker along with every coach they build. Unlike the car industry, the RV dealers have the option of displaying the MSRP sticker or not.Just last week a Florida customer called about a leftover Fleetwood class a the dealer swore they could not find the original list price for. Can you believe that? The dealer is part of a large chain we are all learning to distrust and hate and they apparently think this is a good way to do business. The RV industry thrives on their lack of information and the way dealers are able to distort what little there is. As RV shoppers, the only way we have to compare their products is by MSRP ( manufacturer Suggested Retail Pricing) and a vague hope that one $100,000.00 motorhome is comparable to another or the $50,000.00 fifth wheel price point is a reliable standard. The real problem I see emmerging, as the baby boomers flood the market, is the drastic increase in mark-ups as the RV industry salivates and gets ready to plunder this prize. Just since the first of January, I have documented markups on coachs ranging from 25% to 67%. And the higher one was for a $90,000.00 fifth wheel!

New Zealand is all about the kiwi birds and the sheep, no? Sort of like rural Scotland but warmer and with little flightless birds. Also, New Zealand doesn't actually exist. It is Australia's imaginary friend, invented in a bid to convince people that they are not the only people in that area.According to Terry Pratchett there is no water on Austalia.
Here comes the negative response you asked for but I know you can read – I've seen you do it. So I take issue with the complaint itself.
What you are complaining about is not eBooks the concept but eBooks the implementation. In both instances you have assumed that what is flawed to you must be flawed for everyone. That is not necessarily the case.
I agree it is silly that you can't schedule notifications and bundle gifts but you and I both know these are features that got left in the 'Nice to Have' column of the Shopping Cart annual change request and it has nothing at all to do with whether or not eBooks are right or wrong choice for a given consumer. It's in the 'next release'
It also doens't keep you from reading the material and it certainly didn't hurt sales this year now did it.
Your pricing example might seem logical but it does not reflect the reality of the way retail pricing is done or even is most effective. You price for what they will pay and do whatever you can to get the gap between that number and your cost as wide as possible. If a buyer of an eBook title is from a wealthier demographic than the average paperbook buyer then any good merchandizer will tell you not to leave money on the table. You by the way are not the average buyer of a paperback.
Your assumption that lower price in consumer retail always drives volume and adoption is not true except possibly in commodoties. If it were Apple wouldn't be worth what it is today. The fact that the eBook is cheaper to produce is just a bonus – as long as you have the near monopoly in distribution we have today. If you want to talks about the commoditization of books then thats a broader topic.
As to the lending thing – there is no financial incentive for the writers, booksellers or distributors to make that easier. It only works for consumers but it is a learned behavior not a “requirement” of reading. This bleeds into the shark infested waters of intellectual property and copywrite. Not enough room or lawyers to solve that in a comment.
Buying a book has never granted rights to distribution. If by loaning a book you are providing another use of the physical manifestation of the thoughts of the author then give them your Kindle. Don't try and tell me there is a difference because in this instance it is just a fancy cover.

“You can’t truly have a liberal democracy if you don’t have bicameralism.” by silentsheep
I request that you read about New Zealand, for, as I stated in my “ranting and raving,” New Zealand is unicameral and is a legitimate, liberal democracy. So, you say that you MUST have bicameralism; I think not, for New Zealand manifestly contradicts your views of a liberal democracy. Go to my blog and read about the “New Zealand Example,” and then tell me what you think.

From what I understand, Transparency International New Zealand is headed by a fruit salesman and the directors are consultants to the government. That this and so much more of this secret organisation is not apparent is indeed a clue of what a farce it is.
Transparency International seeks to cover-up corruption in New Zealand and has worked hard in its short life to prevent anti-corruption agencies at the government level by claiming its own investigations say this is unwarranted in New Zealand. Yeah, right!
