Energize Your Metabolism for Weight Loss

February 28, 2009 by

The rate of your metabolism plays a big role in your weight loss. Many people are not aware of the fact that the key to their weight loss lies in the rate of their body’s metabolism. Metabolism is the rate at which your body burns and produces energy from the food you have consumed. If you have a high metabolism, your body will burn fat more quickly with less exercise than someone who does not have a fast metabolism.

There are some ways to get your metabolism working more quickly, which will assist you greatly in losing weight. If your body is working on its own to burn fat you will benefit immensely from your other weight loss efforts.

Firstly, you need to build up on your muscle. The amount of muscular tissue a person has will determine how fast the body burns fat. If you wish to build lean, strong muscles, then you need to work out at least two times a week. The use of weights and other cardiovascular exercise is very important for building muscle. The trick is to exercise and burn as many calories as you consume. You can exercise your body even more by simply taking the stairs instead of the lift, walking the dog, and even house-cleaning will burn calories!

Secondly, remember that breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Many people skip breakfast in the morning claiming not to be hungry, or by simply being too busy! Breakfast kick starts your metabolism for the day.

Water, water, water! Water is one of the most important things for your body. Water flushes out the toxins that are produced when your body burns fat.

Nutrition plays a very important role in speeding up your metabolism. Sugar must be avoided at all costs, because it encourages your body to store fat. Spicy and hot food such as peppers and chilies do wonders in boosting your metabolism. Green tea should replace your consumption of normal tea and coffee, as it greatly improves your metabolism and is also caffeine free. Some good vitamins will also benefit your metabolism.

Now all you need to do is sleep your way to a faster metabolism. The longer you sleep, the more time your body has to regenerate your precious fat-burning muscles.

Over on the TONMO forums, an aquarist has been documenting the life of his octopus, “Legs”. Legs was wild caught when only the size of a fingernail, and raised to healthy, thriving adulthood — with lots and lots of photos.

Legs just recently died, unfortunately, which is the sad reality of getting to know most cephalopods — they tend to be very short-lived creatures, many living for only a year. “The light that burns twice as bright, burns half as long. And you have burned so very, very brightly, Legs.”

I can understand your trepidation in going into a field not fully certain that there are jobs available. Several months ago, I had looked into a program for medical office specialist which is basically a medical office assistant program where one tends to learn medical billing, receptionist duties including answering phones, scheduling and canceling appointments, some coding training, medical office procedures which includes learning transcription and perhaps anatomy and physiology and medical terminology.

The medical assistant program, however, would most likely also teach hands-on clinical skills (as well as administrative procedures) such as EKG (electrocardiogram and it's abbreviated ekg as it's easier to say :) , phlebotomy (drawing blood) and urinalysis procedures. If your heart is really in the medical office aspect, you may be miserable in a clinical medical assistant program and want to drop out or such. The medical assistant program will most likely allow the person to be more marketable on the up side.

I'm not sure that there are many jobs in either field. My cousin has been working as a medical biller for a billing company for three years now and has been wanting to get another job for several months with no avail as the job market for medical billers isn't abundant at all despite what the schools will tell you :) Please note that there are online 'career' schools that may not be accredited or looked at as reputable according to employers such as stratford career institute and penn foster. Online colleges in the same category are University of Phoenix, Strayer University, Kaplan U, Devry U.

This really depends on where you have your Chinese food because north of China and south of Chinas dishes are quite different, Even though the name of the dishes are similar. More important in this case is this one is Taiwanese food.

Today I saw true stupidity, hate and discrimination blatantly thrown in my face.
I am a 16 year old rising high school senior. I am Hearing Impaired. I am
    African
American and I also have a medical disability. THREE STRIKES AND I'M OUT.

I have played volleyball and track for DH Conley high school for 3 years. For
the first time I had a coach say, “I do not feel comfortable with you on my team
this year because of your medical problem and my fear of personal liability if
something were to occur on my watch. Therefore, I was removed from try-outs
after the first day and sent home because the school, coaches, principal, and
Athletic Director all deem me less than a person because I am disabled.

Duke medical doctors were considered incapable of making my medical diagnosis
and understand what I can and cannot do and the facts as they relate to my
health. Therefore, his medical opinion was not relevant. 6 medical release forms
from medical specialist all did not make the school believe I am fit enough to
play on her team. The school backed her. The only thing that mattered was that
I'm different from most in a world where some sports are only for the elite and
    white in rural white America.

Who would think that in America people would be cruel enough to look you in the
face and say in essence, I don't want you around, because you don't represent my
team and your medical disability disqualifies you as being capable of playing on
my team. Although I have played for the last 3 years in high school, travel
volleyball clubs, and summer camps and conditioning. How stupid can a person
    be? How cruel?

Rich, groovy new photo. I wouldn't say spicy, but she does emphasize the sensual aspects of food and pleasure. And that can be kind of spicy. As for spicy, hot food spicy, not so much.Knudsen, the way we eat here is really and truly messed up. Regular meals are enough to feed a small former Soviet republic, and diets consist of no food at all.

Hi Mel – yes it certainly was GOOOOD!

Turkish – the black bean mudpuddle was incredibly tasty, I just think you need a HUGE appetite if you think you're going to make it through an entire bowl on your own! At the time I was mainly concerned with conserving some room to try all the rest of the delicious food on offer… As for spice tolerance increasing with age, apparently it does happen. The more you are exposed to spicy hot food, the more you can handle. Believe it or not we studied that in anthropology 101 when I was at university. Talk about a memory for random facts.

“Maintaining a casualty’s airway may well be a job for a medical specialist, and I may not understand much of the language and jargon being used, but the chaplain’s regular presence leads to eventual acceptance by the larger group, whether school teachers, prison officers, oil workers, NHS staff or soldiers, regardless of how much you comprehend what is going on round about you. It is the practice of involvement and the ministry of presence that leads to friendship and vital opportunities for service.”

a good read as ever Louis and this quote is particularly helpful for me as I'm faced with some issues re. chaplaincy in my new job and this is exactly the vision of chaplaincy I would like to impart.

Hope you're all well – thinking of you all – especially your wee boy! Hope he's settled really well.

I eat jalapeños, put hot sauce on my food, and prefer spicy to the ever so present "spicy or mild" question. But still, not sure.
