Traveling to Indonesia is definitely a vacation you will always cherish. Plan for a long ride to get there, as it is a 31 hour flight from New York. Bali is a wonderful area with an array of fun filled activities to choose from. It is the main tourist area of Indonesia.
The people of Bali are very friendly, and enjoy having visitors come to their area. Many speak English to interact with tourists. They have chosen to preserve their culture for all to see rather than change it to become like other countries. The beaches like Jimbaran and Seminya are a main attraction with surfing being one of the most popular activities. Others enjoy playing world-class golf or sight seeing and browsing world-class arts.
Lodging in Bali ranges from small bungalows to huge fancy hotels, all with basic accommodations to meet the needs of tourists. The view from your hotel will be wonderful because of the rich beauty of the area regardless of where you choose to stay.
The people of Bali are very artistic. They enjoy painting, weaving, carving, basket making, and other arts. Children are taught art from a very early age. They often display their makings to sell to the tourists.
Temples are a main attraction in Bali. They are called Pura. The temples provide an opportunity to explore religion and art of the culture. The people of Bali are still very religious, and it is very important that those visiting the Temples show respect for their religious beliefs.
Art galleries exhibit creative and attractive art work to view. Wildlife and nature reserves are popular in Bali. Many people go to get a glimpse of the very dangerous Komodo Dragon, a large lizard that is found only in the area and is extinct. The rare Java tiger is also displayed.
There are more than 400 volcanoes in Indonesia, 128 are still active. They offer a historical view of this natural creation to observe. The wildlife is also a very popular attraction. Displaying flora and fauna as well as promoting conservation, people are drawn to the beauty of such attractions.
While Indonesia is a beautiful and serene place to visit, it is strongly advised at this time to be cautious with such visits due to the possibility of terrorist attacks. Last week, whistle-blower and former Canadian Red Cross employee Virgil Grandfield came forward to say that construction projects in Indonesia funded by Canadian taxpayers and contracted out by the Canadian Red Cross were using “slave labor,” and perhaps hundreds of workers were being denied payment. The projects in question were part of a tsunami relief and construction effort in the Aceh region of the country. Now, as it turns out, both the Canadian government and the Canadian Red Cross have known for two years about the allegations, but have tried to keep them quiet. According to reports, after the 2004 tsunami which destroyed large areas of Indonesia, $66 million of Canadian taxpayer money was allocated to support rebuilding efforts there. The money was contracted to the Canadian Red Cross (CRC), who then sub-contracted to smaller organizations, some of whom subcontracted even further. Well, unless you are a student or have a sought after skill set it can be difficult to gain legal entry for an extended period. If you are in a field that is in demand (Engineering, Teaching, Nursing, etc) you will likely be able to find work and your employer can help you get the necessary visa to immigrate to the US. Otherwise I don't see much opportunity. BTW, NYC can be a fairly expensive city to live in.

'Travel-ban' teacher appeals for help
KUWAIT CITY : An American teacher at one of Kuwait's private schools has appealed for help from a number of organizations by placing an article on the Internet alleging that she has been prevented from leaving the country against her will.
The teacher, who says that she is a vice-principal, adds that she has been banned from leaving the country because of a case filed in 2006 by a parent who objected to the detention of his son at school. The American lady also alleges that she has approached the US Embassy in Kuwait, which she says should realize the urgency of her situation. The teacher adds that she now fears for her safety. The US Embassy in Kuwait said it is aware of the situation but cannot comment as a matter of policy due to privacy concerns.
