IPod Auctions & More

February 25, 2010 by

The world has been overrun by IPods. Everbody and their brother has one. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t already have one. Since you can’t escape IPod mania you probably already know that you can drop from $50 to $300 for just the basic unit, depending on the model you get. And don’t forget the accessories.

You can start out with the basic model – the IPod Shuffle. Or you could go with the Nano which has a video screen and a bit more storage room. You might decide to go with the Classic version with video and the capacity to hold up to 2000 songs. But don’t make a decision until you’ve seen the IPod Touch.

The iPod Touch has a multi-touch interface, a 3.5 inch widescreen color display, and internet capabilities. You can listen to music, upload pictures or watch videos. If you want to spend $500, you can even get 32GB of memory.

Apple didn’t miss the boat on almost pure profit by making so many accessories available. There are all kinds of home audio bases, jackets and car mounts for them. You could spend an arm and a leg by the time you’re done.

iPod auctions are a great way to find the iPod you want as well as the accessories you would like to have for a steal. Check out a site like www.actions4acause.com. They donate part of the proceeds to charity Go find an iPod you really want with the best accessories and find a great buy as well. Don’t downgrade your options, simply find a lower price.

I was over at Fry's in Fountain Valley, CA last night and was told that these were arriving in their Thursday or Friday trucks along with the car mounts. I might give this battery a try, but I'm happy enough with the combination of my standard battery and the external battery pack.

There's been a lot of debate as to whether Apple's shuffle algorithm is truly random: a Google search for “ipod shuffle randomness” returns over 9,000 results. HowStuffWorks's article How the iPod Shuffle Works points out “In the iTunes settings, you can choose to set the iPod to play 'without repetitions,' or you can make it play your favorite songs more frequently if you've rated them.”

    1. paige you have a crackberry. notice it has the word CRACK in it because it is addicting. like a drug. i have a normal cell phone. it does not even have internet capabilities. i rest my case.
    2. you were right. i acknowledge this. i will go one whole week without making a status. and after that i should feel less need to do so. sooo…you just have to read my blog!

I have a confession to make. I recently gifted my mom with a new cell phone. It was small, cute, and had many features that required the use of a “data plan.” I thought about keeping the phone for myself, but instead, I sent it north to mom. I also called the phone company and asked them to turn off the internet capabilities (since I don't use the internet on my phone, I knew she wouldn't use the internet on her phone). Now, I see your blog entry and I'm feeling a bit silly. I take three steps foward; then one step backwards! Nonetheless, I am still a growing techy.

I also completely agree with you. The ipad seems to be stuck in a very awkward position between an iphone and a laptop computer. People who want basic internet capabilities that are highly portable will stick with the iphone, and people who want a full blown media device that will play videos on a huge 15″ screen and allow them to do work will choose a laptop for around the same price as an ipad. The ipad just doesn't seem very practical for most people's needs.

I am actually amazed that sociologists of all people are willing to fork out this much money for a cell phone. I travel a lot, so my Sony Ericsson ($200, with internet capabilities, MP3 player, FM radio, and a great camera) is an unlocked quad-band, so I can buy local SIM cards everywhere I go. I use T-Mobile prepaid, and only spend about $20 a month most of the time. Sure, it'd be nice to have internet access on my phone, but I'm not willing to pay so much extra for it.

What I can't justify for the iPad is that, it is NOT a computer. It doesn't contain half of the essentials that a computer requires including a CD drive, USB drives, and internet capabilities if WiFi is not present. This virtually wireless “computer” would be better described as an electronic book.

I know we're not here to right product reviews, but the iPad has just been such a disappointment in my opinion.
