Very interesting question that you ask. To be honest although I have been an architect for several years I have never spent 100% of my time doing that. Yes, I am the one who ultimately have the most input on the way applications are put together.
Some of that though include writing the first prototypes and leading by example. I am working with another lmn architect to try and migrate our current car hire systems from there various technolgies to one single portable technology. To show the rest of the car hire development team that this is that daunting I am doing the first prototype or hopefully porting the first new application. Previosuly I use to a lot of support work but thanks to SOX I don't have that pleasure any more.
