San Francisco Giants Tickets
July 23, 2009 by Janet7
The San Francisco Giants are a Major League Baseball team based in San Francisco, California, that currently play in the National League West Division. One of the oldest of the MLB teams, the Giants hold the distinction of having won the most games of any team in the history of organized sports. The Giants also have the most members in the Baseball Hall of Fame. The Giants played in New York through the 1957 season, after which they moved west to California to become the San Francisco Giants.
In 2000, after 40 years at Candlestick Park, the Giants bid a bittersweet farewell to their old home and relocated to a new, privately financed downtown stadium, a long-advocated move. AT&T Park (originally Pacific Bell Park and later SBC Park) sits on the shores of China Basin (often referred to as McCovey Cove by Giants fans) at the corner of 3rd and King Streets (with an official address of 24 Willie Mays Plaza to honor the long-time Giant). Regardless of anything that might happen on the field of play, this move represented an entirely new era for the Giants and their fans. Whereas the team used to occupy what was widely regarded as the least baseball-friendly stadium in all of Major League Baseball, a throwback to the era of suburban, multi-purpose, concrete “cookie-cutter” stadiums that so many teams moved to during the 1960s and 70s, their new home is regarded as one of the better venues in all of professional sports.
San Francisco Giants tickets are routinely hard to come by. The Giants routinely sell out this nearly 43,000-seat stadium, whereas it was not uncommon for them to have a paid attendance of less than 10,000 in Candlestick’s nearly 60,000 seating capacity, although by the 1999 season the Giants managed about 25,000 fans a game. The franchise since the move annually vies for highest MLB season attendance, in contrast to being often threatened with having the league-low figure before. While still breezy in the summer time in comparison to other MLB parks, AT&T Park has been a consensus success and has developed the reputation as a “pitcher’s park.” Its state-of-the-art design minimizes wind-chill, it is well served by mass transit, and it has spectacular views of the bay and the city skyline (which even Candlestick had until it was redesigned in the early 1970s to accommodate the 49ers). AT&T Park is the centerpiece of a renaissance in San Francisco’s South Beach and Mission Bay neighborhoods. But most important to Giants fans, the new ballpark means they no longer have to worry about their team moving away from San Francisco, at least not any time soon.

“we only have freedom because we prevented the growth of violent, oppressive totalitarian ideologies like islam” Then tell me why haven’t people tried to stop Christianity? Isn’t the bible also very oppressive and violent like the Koran? It’s because of hypocritical douches like you who pick one religion over the other and decide that it’s okay to be intolerant against a different group. You don’t realize that by censoring them you are going against your own idea of “freedom”.

Music students at Churchill County High School on Friday protested the last-minute cancellation of their annual trip to a San Francisco Giants game.
Principal Kevin Lords said the decision to cancel the trip, which was made mid-morning on Thursday, was the result of what he called “confidential and sensitive” factors that he cannot disclose.
“I am very devastated that the kids couldn't go on this trip,” he said Friday.
But Lords said school officials felt strongly that they would be remiss if they allowed the trip to proceed as planned. Between 42 and 46 students were expected to make the trip. They were scheduled to leave Friday morning.
A note on the school district's Web site on Friday read, “Due to various reasons, the CCHS annual choir trip to the SF Giants game in San Francisco scheduled for departure tomorrow has been canceled. Please check back for additional information. It will be posted to our website as it becomes available.”
Students organized an effort overnight to wear orange-and-black — the Giants' colors — to school today.
Some carried signs off campus encouraging motorists to honk if they supported the students, and some drivers expressed support after hearing from the students. Students said they felt they were unable to get a straight answer from school officials for the reason the trip was canceled.
“Every time we talked to one of the vice principals, it was a different excuse,” said sophomore Tyler McElvain, a choir student. “It was never one solid answer. Kids would be happy if there was one solid answer that made sense.”
Junior David Byers was also upset.
“We said it (the money) was all in the budget,” he said. “They started making up random excuses and they kept stuttering and could not tell us.”
Andrea Denney, whose son, Nathan, is a member of the choir, said she was upset that the cancellation decision was made at the last-minute.
“It was a shock, like a slap in the face,” she said. “This is an honor. They were asked by the Giants to come and sing.”
The students had conducted a busy round of fundraisers — candle sales, car washes, a spaghetti dinner — to raise $150 per student to cover costs of the trip, which included a charter bus, a hotel and game tickets. Lords said school officials are working to reimburse students.
The school had paid $1,500 to the Giants for tickets to the Saturday afternoon game. Lords said some of the tickets still will be used by people who decide to attend the game between the Giants and the Colorado Rockies even though the Churchill County students won't be performing. The school is attempting to negotiate a refund with the baseball team for the unused tickets.
The Marriott Hotel in San Francisco at which students were expected to stay released the reserved rooms without charge.
But area residents who wanted to attend the game and stay at the hotel still would qualify for the group rate negotiated for the band, Lords said.
The school district hadn't reached agreement with the charter bus company that had contracted to transport the school contingent to San Francisco.
Negotiations are continuing, Lords said.
A spokeswoman for the San Francisco Giants confirmed Friday that the choir had canceled its appearance. She said no reason was cited for the cancellation, and she wasn't immediately able to determine when the cancellation notice had been received.
Churchill County students had made an annual appearance at a Giants game since 2003. For the past four years, the Giants have dedicated the event as Churchill County High School Day. In addition to the choir singing, the jazz band also performed outside the ballpark at Willie Mays Plaza and the Navy Junior ROTC honor guard presented the colors.

The Churchill County School District likes to give lip service to the claim of transparency regarding district operations. I see no transparency here. After all their hard work I think a reasonable explanation to the students is in order. “Sensitive and Confidential” is not an explanation, it's a cop-out. I agree with UncleWilly on this one. But I don't for a second believe it is just Mr. Lord's call, I'm sure it came from higher up. I wonder if Character Counts any longer at the district level. I think I'll put the President of the Board of Trustees on the hook on this one. Rich, I support your candidacy for re-election; please justify my support and have the district offer an honest explanation.

It's too bad the principal doesn't have the character and fortitude to just be honest with the students and parents. All this pussyfooting and secretiveness does absolutely nothing to help trust issues with the school administration. There probably is a good reason he had to cancel, but the best course would have been honesty when making the announcement. Did he get some reliable word that something bad was going to happen on this trip? To me, that would be the only reason I can see that justifies the last minute cancellation. If so, let's hear it. Was someone going to harm the students? Was a student going to harm someone? Might as well tell. There are no long lasting secrets in this little town.

Agreed, cactuskate. I should hope that nobody is blaming Mrs. Archey for this incident, for it certainly didn't turn out the way she wanted.

The teacher did not cancel the trip. Point a finger at your “petulant, irresponsible, vindictive” adminstrators now trying to cover their backsides with excuses that won't hold water. This was not an act of compassion or a decision based on budget, class funds or travel arrangements. This was a selfish, short sighted, ill conceived and flagrant retaliatory decision of unbelievable arrogance. I hope the facts go public – everyone will be suprised. Then again, maybe not since it's just another example of how some administrators run what they perceive to be their private kingdoms with no apparent accountability or ramifications for their actions. The school board needs to clean house – now. The dollars that will undoubtedly be spent on legal fees defending this action will come from an already thread bare, strained budget – at the expense of our students. Thank goodness I no longer have students enrolled at CCHS.

I, for one, would like a complete explanation from the principal as to why this decision had to be made. The kids who were planning on making this trip worked hard to get this opportunity, only to have it snatched out from them. We teach our kids to work hard for a goal, then remove the goal. What kind of example have we set by doing this horrible deed?

Mauer is godly. I did not see the video but I'm sure it was not worth my time. Major league baseball players and any professional athlete for that matter (besides the attention-happy basketball players of course) do unbelievable things. Mauer is taking to the next level. Baseball players are fidgety, superstitious, and OCD. Who cares what Mauer does because he is obviously doing something that works and works well. He will be one of the greatest hitting catchers of all time and its hard to not love watching him play

Personally, I don't think many Eagle fans are terrified of this game, and for many reasons. Recent history, Giants injuries, Eli's INTs this season. I think most of them are very confident.
However, I am confident in the Giants as well. While the Giants may have taken their hits on Offense, the Defense has been playing classic Giants football. I have confidence that they will come out on top.
Of course I'm confident. I'm a Giants fan.
Tim-
Coors Field increases run scoring more than any other park in the history of the world–regularly posting Park Factors in the 120's (meaning that roughly 20% more runs are scored in Colorado than in a neutral ballpark).
Pacific Bell Park, on the other hand, decreases run scoring by about 10%–because of it's deep power alleys and typically cold and windy weather.
I haven't checked the numbers myself, but if the Giants pitchers are anywhere near shouting distance of the Rockies pitchers in terms of raw numbers, the Giants definitely take the cake in terms of offense. Coors changes everyting, man. EVERYTHING.

San Francisco’s full of pinkos and they have trolley buses, although they call them something else as the trams are called trolleys.
No, San Francisco's trams are called “streetcars” (or even “trains”!), and the trolley buses are called “trolley coaches.”
In Philadelphia, the trams are called “trolleys” and the trolley buses are called “trackless trolleys.”
Condocontessa,
I agree with you 100%; barely a mention of the world class location. In the case of The Palms, they have completely ignored the fantastic neighborhood. World Class hotels like the St. Regis, restaurants like Bacar, and Pac Bell Park home of the San Francisco Giants are all within shouting distance. It is the most vibrant and evolving neighborhood in San Francisco.

Roger, it has occurred to me that the best kind of rich person is the one who has known poverty and struggle at some point in life; the Ricketts kids were born into wealth, and it is unfortunate for us that they are also Cubs fans. I just sent an idea to Rahm Emanuel on his website about how to improve the fate of the Cubs in their quest for a World Series championship. Ironically, it is only through the magic of a “rich man in a poor man's shirt” that the Cubs will win it all. On his 2003 tour, Bruce Springsteen performed on August 13 in US Cellular Field (the White Sox won the World Series in 2005), August 16 in Pacific Bell Park (the Giants won the World Series this year), and on September 6 and 7 in Fenway Park (the Red Sox were rewarded with two World Series championships in 2004 and 2007). For the first and only time, Bruce and the E Street Band performed in Soldier Field on August 9, 1985. Does anybody remember the Bears' record in the 1985 season? Yes, I enjoyed that Super Bowl championship as well. So, if the Ricketts are the problem, then Rahm and Bruce are the solution; these are two rich guys who aren't so bad for Chicago. Wrigley Field isn't going to change, but it's sad that the pattern of the Cubs having clueless owners hasn't changed much either. Now, regarding the summer concert series in Wrigley Field for 2011…Bruuuuuce!!!

P.S. Thank God that Mayor Emanuel is also a Springsteen fan!
Maybe the best way to explain UPN's new drama South Beach is to tell you that when Vanessa Williams warns a young model that ''South Beach will eat you alive,'' I fully expected the next scene to be a horde of zombie parking attendants chewing the entrails of half-naked girls in the lobby of the Delano. Cannibalism is about the only thing missing from this delirious new trashfest of hard bodies and soft brains.]]>
