Wii Sports Resort Is A Blast: Good Parent & Child Activity

September 29, 2009 by

I just opened the package for Wii Sports Resort with my daughter yesterday and I love it. I had been waiting several months for this new game to come out since I love the original Wii Sports (I am not alone, it was the most popular video game for a very long time). I also was psyched about the new more accurate wii sports resort controller that comes with the game.

I like to spend quality time with my daughter and wii sports and wii fit is one way that I can have fun while doing it. I was really looking forward to sword fighting and archery since these are some of my daughter’s real life favorite sports. I also like that wii introduces her to some sports she could not or would not do like yoga, hula hooping, and frisbee which she shunned in real life or wake boarding which she is too young to do.

One thing I quickly learned is that you need an extra wii motion plus accesory to add to your wii controller if you want to canoe or play a game with more than one person; the regular wii controller does not work. You also need a numchuck for many of the games, but we already had them so I was ok.

I found out today that the extra wii motion plus accesories for the wii motion plus controller quickly sold out in stores. Luckily ebay always has all hot new wii items in stock and this time is no different.

Overall I think wii sports resort will be just as beloved as our wii sports and wii fit games for parent/child quality time.

A Gamecube controller is plugged in to the provided Gamecube connection ports on the Wii, which are located at the top (if standing) of the console. It does not matter when you plug it in, just before you start playing the game.

I think June will be an important month for Nintendo, as that's when Wii Sports Resort releases. If hardware sales don't pick up then it will point to bigger problems, but if sales explode again then it would just reinforce that even the Wii needs actual software releases to keep it going.

It will be a rough month for Sony though, being compared year-on-year against the launch month of MGS4.

wow!! that is interesting is does affect people in many different ways i found an article on a 3 yr old girl that shot her self with mistaking the a real gun to a wii controller…

It highlights that youth today do not take violence as seriously as it should be taken in a society that is constantly evolving that video games do influence this movement were there you like it or not.

hey guys. thanks for the compliments, glad to see our project up there! yeah, system cost is pretty dang steep. That $250 doesnt even include labor! Mass produced these would be able to go for a bit cheaper, maybe $125-$175. However, cost wasn't terribly important to us, we weren't hoping to maass-market these, just a fun project to do.

and in response to the anonymouse poster above, the accruacy could be MUCH improved. The wii controller will certainly be more prcise, in fact more precise versions already exist. These almost universally rely on gyroscopes (like tilt-sensors). We wanted to stay away from gyropscopes, as they are not always intuitive, and typically not as fun to use. This one is kind of like a WYSIWYG mouse, if you move it up and to the left, your mouse cursor goes up and to the left.

anyways, I appreciate all your comments!

I just wanted to say that I found Wii Sports Resort rather fun especially, yes the cheesy ones, Sky Diving and Cycling. The games, do get rather boring but I found them entertaining enough. I also enjoyed Sword Fighting but find it difficult, i have to try harder on my hand-eye coordination skills I guess! I found your post very interesting and i can agree on many levels with your views of the game. Just thought though you might like some feedback!

I'm sorry that the lack of hardcore shooters has ruined the Wii for you. I'm sorry that fun is longer synonymous with Zelda or Mario anymore.

Also, if you've actually watched some Galaxy 2 stuff, this is no mere reskin, this is a whole new game with the same premise. It looks fantastic but once again, it's Modern Warfare so it's a moot argument.

Yes, I'm kidding but to say no to a console just because of past experiences is asinine. I should be ignoring the PSP and DS right now if that was the case. Actually, I should be ignoring the 360 as well since the first two years were relatively shitty compared to now. Just enjoy what you have now and think not of the past.

Nintendo is stepping it up and they have some good stuff coming. It's good to be a gamer and have all three consoles these days. I'll be getting the new black Wii with motion plus and Wii Sports Resort. It's good stuff and I love it.

But hey, that's just me. You can go back to playing your pirated 360 games.

I know absolutely nothing about football but very interesting post!

We have an exchange student from Mexico living with my parents right now doing grade 10 and her favorite joke is:
“What does a Canadian do after winning the World Cup?”
    “Put down the Wii controller!”
She finds it hilarious. I told her that after that joke I could no longer cheer for her home team ;)

Duke Virtual was a very different experience for me, it was an amazing trip. I experienced how it felt to be in a virtual world, it was truly amazing. I have to admit I was dizzy and tired but at the same time I had a good time. I would love to return and experience more of their virtual goods; the technology was 6 million dollars. The name of the device that controlled everything was called the wand. It reminded me of the Wii controller. The purpose of the lab was to see how it is to be inside a 3-D world, and see animation to a very different level.

Well gutting a Wii controller is not that big of a leap, it is a slightly off version of Bluetooth, you get the up down left right, and we have seen them used for three dimensional projects. Powering them is simple, and adding them in may not be all that hard. The antenna are dirt cheap, so you can use the IR part as well. Plenty of alternate uses for them. I like that screen interface though, you could see him looking around in odd angles with it. This thing is probably close to polishing up and selling it. I am starting to get interested in it now I can get Duke Nukem to work on XP.

that good, but you never know. As for Wii Sports Resort, I think they shot themselves in the foot. I don't know about you guys, but I would've rather them stick to mainstream sports like football, basketball, etc. Animal Crossing is alright, but it's not that OMG hardcore game. Nintendo continues to disappoint me.]]>
